This photograph was taken in December 2008. Labrador City is young. Tyler, Caity and Layne are in Calgary. The night before, they played one of their first out-of-town gigs. Ashley Ohman took the photo on Caity’s camera. The three Lab City dogs slept on her floor all weekend. They drank, saw Eamon and Michael play, and had a party in Ashley’s bathtub. They played to a small, surprised crowd at Steeps in Kensington. On the way home, Layne turned the wrong way onto a four-lane one-way street. Snow was falling heavily from the sky, piling up on the road: terrible driving conditions. Calmly, Layne turned the car around and drove back to Edmonton, 60 km/h up the QEII highway.
This photo was taking outside the house in May 2009. Labrador City is vibrant. Liam, Tyler and Layne are minutes away from leaving on tour. They have been practicing songs and building up their liquor tolerances for weeks. The picture was taken on Tyler’s crappy digital camera. That Nissan Altima will be the boys’ home for the next few weeks. After a cramped night in Lake Louise, Layne will dance on its roof in Golden. Jessica and Caity will record a brilliant album: “While The Boys Are Away”. But they don’t know that yet. Caity looks so happy.
